MVCC Strategic Gaming Club raises funds for Children’s Miracle Network

The Mohawk Valley Community College Strategic Gaming Club raised $950 during October’s Extra Life Weekend 24-hour gaming marathon at the College’s Utica Campus. All proceeds were donated to St. Luke’s Hospital through the Children’s Miracle Network.

Extra Life is a grassroots movement that mobilizes gamers of all types to help Children’s Miracle Network hospitals treat sick and injured children. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $40 million for sick and injured kids. This is the sixth year MVCC’s club has taken part in the movement.

“Extra Life gives gamers a chance to take one of the things we love the most, playing games, and use them to help our local community,” said Melissa Barlett, Ph.D., assistant professor in MVCC’s Math and Natural Sciences Department and advisor to the Strategic Gaming Club. “The students really get excited about this event every year, and it’s their enthusiasm to help raise money ‘for the kids’ that makes this a success.”
